What good is music theory? Should I worry about studying?
I know much about music as the college graduate California. I'm no musician, but I'm thinking of learning to play guitar. It would be the study of music theory is of no benefit to me as an amateur guitarist? If so, how? I'm not really sure what is meant by the theory of music to be honest. One of the main reasons interests me is because I believe that my child may have some musical talent and I do what I can to encourage and cultivate their potential. Thank you.
Thanks for this question. Many people are too intimidated to even ask. LAST MINUTE! He taught music theory to 8-yr. old, and have considered myself since that was 6. The benefits obtained are multiple and can be applied to many other areas of life. You can learn as much or as little as you like and go to your own rhythm with a little help from books and Internet sites. To get a better handle on what it's all about, I recommend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_theory Then check a look at some of the following: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q = books% 3A + Music + theory & btnG = Google + Search And Yes, there a book entitled "Music Theory for Dummies." http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=Music+theory+for+dummies&btnG=Search STUDIES USEFUL IN LINE: The most wonderful http://www.musictheory.net http://www.numbera.com/musictheory/ understanding of Music Theory is that applies to all instruments. Besides helping you become a good guitarist, you can also learn (at once), keyboards, including piano keyboard is more or least at the root of it all. Another advantage is that MT is a great topic of discussion in almost any gathering of people. If you and / or decide on your child to take classes, make sure that the instructor teaches theory as well as the guitar. I can not stress this enough. It provides faster learning and gives you a global scope knowledge with which to work. I congratulate not only want to encourage your child but for their willingness to be an active participant. Good parenting! Kabum (MT / Guitar Instructor)
